So it is the second day of week two in San Jose, Costa Rica. The first week went by quite slow, but at the same time very quickly. I cannot believe that my first full week in Costa Rica is already over. To be honest I thought the time would be so slow that it would only be day three and I thought it would be time to go home.
But now that the week is over I could not believe it! The classes have been absolutely incredible. The Administrative of Justice class is beyond belief! The discussions we have had on our first point of Egyptian immigrants was amazing. Being in a classroom, and feeling free and safe to share opinions and also being able to describe why you disagree with a classmate and having a valid discussion is what I've always imagined college to be like, and that's what I've got.
Also, the Spanish class has been interesting. Being a native speaker I felt like it was going to be a piece of cake, but being able to help students with questions or translations is great. And being in a different country, where Spanish is totally different than Mexico, Guatemala, and the USA, is fabulous. Learning different ways they interact and different phrases and words that mean different things to me is great.
This passed Thursday the class visited Doka Coffee Plantation, Poas Volcano, and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, and I don't think I have seen or witnessed anything so beautiful. Observing and learning how coffee is grown and processed is amazing! And being such a coffee lover, I think that the best coffee I have tasted, is here in Costa Rica! Also, the volcano is placed inside a cloud forest and unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to see the crater, but we did see some exotic bugs, and we got the chance to feed a squirrel. And at La Paz Waterfall Gardens I got to hold a Toucan, pet a monkey, and milk a cow! So that knocks three things off my bucket list!
Also, I spent the first full weekend in Costa Rica, in Arenal with some new friends. We stayed at a hotel which is the closest one to the volcano and had an amazing and relaxing time. While we were there the volcano was visible almost the whole time and it was gorgeous! We also became friends with some locals who worked at the hotel, and a couple that was visiting from Baltimore, Maryland. We spent almost a whole day with them, and it was just incredible.
I look forward to see what week two has in store!
