Week three must have been my favorite week by far! The classes were great, as always, but it was the trips we took that simply took my breath away! On Tuesday, we took a trip to an indigenous reserve and it was beyond amazing! The shamans son was able to show us around, give us some history on the tribe, teach us about some plants, and later, perform a ceremony with us. He shared that the indigenous people of Costa Rica make up only about one percent of the population! We learned a lot about different plants, and what they could be used for, and we also learned that the day you die, is the happiest day in your life. The death of someone is celebrated with a party and is thought of as your life were just beginning. We also got to use their machine with which they squeeze the sugar cane juice out of the sugar cane itself. And the ceremony was one to cleanse the body spiritually and emotionally. I was also able to buy a bracelet that is made of sacred stones. It was a water stone which signifies purity, tiger stone, that means balance, and a bear stone which means strength.
And on Thursday, for our group field trip, we went zip lining and water rafting! I had been rafting before, but I love it, so it was just great! And zip lining is something I have always wanted to do! The last line must have been the one I enjoyed the most! It was the longest, and you zip lined over the river.
That weekend I flew out to Guatemala to visit family which was fabulous! I got the chance to eat some AMAZING food and dance a lot of Marimba with my grandpa.
